Menou and Paolo Calabrese present 'st2m', a composition for various binaural waveforms tones, recorded in December 2023.

The meeting between Japan-based sound artist Menou and Italian composer Paolo Calabrese results in long-form, patient, and focused music, built on low-frequency binaural tonal transpositions and evolving harmonic cycles that evoke resonant responses. In their hands, experimental collaboration becomes a gateway to new ways of perceiving sound, structure, and introspection. Despite the 12,727 km physical distance, the most striking element of 'st2m' is its strong emphasis on sharing an intimate, up-close experience exclusively through the listening practice, which is transmitted and reflected in the audience's experience as well, achieved also through a direct 'single-take' recording approach that captured the instinctive dialogue.

Rather than waiting for sudden changes, 'st2m', in its 19-minute duration, invites the listener to lose and rediscover themselves in a space of reflection and contemplation, leading to a composition that unfolds in a continuous flow, alternating moments of tension and relaxation, stillness, and dynamism, shifting the listener's perception of time. Through the extended durations and binaural spatialization, it creates an ever-evolving present, guiding the audience or allowing them to immerse themselves in reflection.

With the same track recorded on both sides of the cassette, the edition emphasizes the ever-evolving concept "each playback subtly alters the sound, as the tape deteriorates and transforms the audio over time."

This is not music that aims to inspire or convey; rather, it serves as an exploration of instinct and connection. 'st2m' invites the audience into an intimate space where they can undergo the subtle interaction of the “As Ignorable As It Is Interesting” sound – or not – allowing them to reflect on their own experiences. A music that transcends boundaries, revealing shared humanity within the tapestry of sound and the fluidity of time and space.
